Heavy Rains Forecast From ‘Short-Lived Tropical Depression’ This Weekend

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service continues to monitor a tropical wave in the Atlantic, which is set to bring severe weather to parts of the Eastern Caribbean this weekend.

Director of the ABMS, Dale Destin, says there is the “potential for flooding rainfall, with one to three inches possible on Friday night through Saturday night.”

The National Hurricane Centre also says, “Interests in the Lesser Antilles should monitor the progress of this system as gusty winds and areas of heavy rain are possible Friday night and Saturday, regardless of development.”

It says the area of showers and thunderstorms is showing signs of organization in association with a tropical wave located about 1000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles.

The NHC also says, “This system will likely become a short-lived tropical depression during the next day or two as it moves westward across the tropical Atlantic.”

Its chances of development beyond a tropical depression are set to be stymied because it is forecast to enter a region of strong upper-level winds and dry air.
