‘IF YOU DID IT, YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO BE PUNISHED’ – GUILTY PLEA SENTENCE REDUCTION QUESTIONED

Former chief magistrate Maureen Payne Hyman is questioning whether offenders should receive automatic sentence reductions for pleading guilty, particularly in cases involving sexual offences against children.

Payne Hyman says she does not believe an offender should receive credit simply for admitting to an offence that they committed.

She was speaking during a townhall Tuesday that focused on addressing issues surrounding child abuse.
