PM On US Cuba Relations
Prime Minister the Hon. Gaston Browne has welcomed the historic decision by US President Barrack Obama to ease restrictions on relations with Cuba.
US media reports are that Mr. Obama and President Raúl Castro of Cuba have agreed to put aside decades of hostility to find a new relationship between the United States and the island nation.
Speaking from Jordan in the Middle East, Prime Minister Browne recalled while visiting Havana a week ago… to attend the Caricom-Cuba Summit… he raised a public call for the USA to lift its embargo against Cuba.
Minister Browne made a similar call at the United Nations in September.
According to Prime Minister Browne, this announcement marks the end of a long and wasteful journey. He adds that it finally allows for dialogue and exchange between all the nations of our hemisphere in a civilized and constructive manner.
Prime Minister Browne also extended congratulations to the CARICOM Heads and their Governments, and to the people of the Caribbean for their relentless stand against the US embargo
