Prime Minister Gaston Browne Encouraged By Positive Review Of Antigua’s Fight Against Money Laundering

CaptureAntigua and Barbuda now stands on par with the USA and other first-world countries, as it relates to having in place a legal framework and operational capacity to prevent money laundering within its borders.

Those were the words of Prime Minister Gaston Browne, as he issued a charge to local security officials. This was after an extremely positive review of the country’s progress in fighting money laundering and other related crimes by the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force.

The Prime Minister is now urging the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy or ONDCP… and the Financial Services Regulatory Commission or FSRC… to work assiduously in ensuring that the country does not slip.

As a result of the work of the ONDCP, FSRC and other relevant agencies earlier this year, the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force approved Antigua and Barbuda’s exit of the Third Round Follow-Up Process.

The task force recognized that significant progress has been made, and therefore gave Antigua and Barbuda a clean bill of health, in preparation to progress to the fourth round of the evaluation process.

Prime Minister Browne says it is now up to the financial security officials to ensure that the country maintains its standing in the international community.
