AUSTRIA ANNOUNCES LOCKDOWN FOR THE UNVACCINATED

About 2 million unvaccinated people in Austria are to go into lockdown as of Monday as the European country battles record infections which are fueling growing pressure on hospitals. Unvaccinated individuals will only be allowed to leave their homes for limited reasons such as buying food or working. BBC News quotes Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg as saying “We are not taking this step lightly but it is necessary.” About 65 per cent of the Austrian population is vaccinated, one of the lowest in Western Europe. The seven-day infection rate is more than 800 per 100,000 people, a major cause for concern for the authorities in Vienna.
