GOVERNMENT OUTLINES PREPARATIONS AS MONKEYPOX VIRUS SPREADS WORLDWIDE

Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne says Antigua and Barbuda is acquiring medicine to prevent the spread of monkeypox virus if a case is confirmed in this country.
The head of government provided the update during the Browne and Browne show on Pointe FM on Saturday, hours after the World Health Organization declared the monkeypox virus a global health emergency.
A global health emergency is the WHO’s highest alert and the classification for monkeypox follows a worldwide upsurge in cases.
WHO Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says some 75 countries have reported more than 16,000 cases of the virus and there have been five related deaths.
