Kenroy Joseph is not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter.

Jurors took under two hours to come to a unanimous verdict in the case Thursday.

Joseph injured Luciene Glennex Brodie during an altercation at Mac Pond playing field February 24, 2016.

The injuries led to Brodie’s death three weeks later.

Witnesses have testified seeing Joseph chop the victim with a cutlass several times resulting in head injuries.

At the trial, Joseph admitted he injured Brodie but claimed the victim provoked him.

He says he was arguing with another man when Brodie intervened.

Joseph also told the court he acted in self-defence, saying he feared for his life since Brodie attacked him with the wooden part of a pick.

Nonetheless, the jurors ultimately rejected the self-defence theory when they found the defendant guilty of manslaughter.

Justice Colin Williams will hand down Joseph’s sentence next Thursday.
