LIAT To Stay , Amidst Talks of Operations Moving

Recent comments by a Barbadian government minister that more of LIAT’s operation will move from Antigua is not sitting well with the administration here in St. John’s.

According to Barbados Today, Tourism Minister Richard Sealey said recently that additional operations will be moved to Grantley Adams International Airport, once upgrades are completed.

Sealy suggested that Barbadians were paying too much for the airline but getting very little benefit. He said, therefore, following the establishment of a new civil aviation facility as well as other upgrades at the GAIA in the coming months, he would ensure that there was increased activities from LIAT in Barbados.

But at a time when the Antiguan Government is pledging its unwavering support to the regional carrier, Sealey’s statement is causing Minister of Tourism the Hon. John Maginley to again set the record straight.

The minister addressed the issue at a recent public meeting held by the United Progressive Party (UPP).

Government is also working out the logistics on re-locating LIAT’s offices to the existing terminal at VC Bird International Airport, once the new facility becomes operational.
