Minister of Culture expresses Sympathy on the passing of veteran carnival statistician

Minister responsible for Culture and Carnival, the Hon. Darryl Matthew has expressed condolences to the family of the late Ivan Michael, who passed away on Tuesday following a period of illness.

“Ivan has given over 25 years of service to Carnival and culture, working as a statistician with the Judges Committee for the numerous competitions held during the annual summer festival. His dedication to the task was unmatched as he continuously volunteered his services. He will be greatly missed,” the Minister stated.

Chairman of the Festivals Commission, Maurice Merchant who has worked with Michael for over 15 years, said that he was the consummate professional who cut no corners in the execution of his job. He was the man behind the scenes who ensured fairness and demanded accountability from the judges whose scores he tabulated. We have truly lost a veteran who loved carnival and culture,” he said.

The Festivals Commission said that during its weekly meeting on Wednesday, it will commence plans to honour Michael during the upcoming Carnival season. (Ends)
