NEW CARICOM SECRETARY GENERAL TO BE SWORN IN TODAY

Dr. Carla Bennett will be sworn in as the new Secretary-General of CARICOM today.

Dr. Bennett who hails from Belize is an economist by profession and has previously served in the capacities of Deputy-Secretary of CARICOM (1997-2002) and Deputy Governor of the Central Bank.

She replaces outgoing Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRoque, also an economist, who has served the Caribbean Community since 2011.

Dr. Bennett will serve as CARICOM’s 8^th Secretary-General.

CARICOM Chairman Hon. Gaston Browne will offer his comments at the swearing in ceremony.
