OFFICER WEEKES BAILED IN XPZ FIRE THEFT CASE

High Court judge Colin Williams granted bail to veteran firefighter Assistant Superintendent of Police Glenroy Weekes, who is facing larceny and illegal weapon charges.

The defendant was not at the court hearing, which ended moments ago.

One of attorneys Lawrence Daniels made the application.

Weekes must pay a $7500 deposit to secure his bail, which the judge ordered as $25,000 in like sum for Weekes’ two sureties.

He must also report once weekly to a police station and surrender his travel documents.

The defendant is expected to plead when he returns to St. John’s Magistrates Court on September 6.
