The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a traffic collision which claimed the lives of 36-year-old Sherwin Harding of Skerritts Pasture, and three-year-old Janae Browne on Pares Main Road on Monday, November 2.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:50 p.m. in the vicinity of Welch Supermarket and involved a grey Toyota Vitz motor car driven by Harding.

It is alleged that the vehicle was travelling from east to west along Pares Main Road when the driver attempted to overtake another vehicle. During the manoeuvre, the driver reportedly encountered an oncoming vehicle and attempted to return to his lane to avoid a head-on collision.

The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which collided with a fence and wall along the southern side of the road before spinning and coming to rest on the roadway.

As a result of the collision, Harding and three-year-old Janae Browne sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene by a medical doctor.

Two other occupants of the vehicle, Rashima Moore and three-year-old Jahcari Browne, were transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where they received medical treatment. Both are reportedly in stable condition.

The Police Administration has extended condolences to the families and loved ones of both deceased, and wishes the injured passengers a full and speedy recovery.

Law enforcers are also appealing to all motorists to exercise extreme caution when using the nation’s roads. Drivers are strongly urged to drive within the speed limits, avoid dangerous overtaking, and exercise due care and attention at all times.
