POOR VISIBILITY FROM ERUPTING VOLCANO AFFECTS EVACUATION IN SVG

Some Vincentians are having difficulties in evacuating from the north of St Vincent as the explosive eruption of the La Soufriere Volcano continues. Poor visibility from towering ash clouds has forced some local boats hired to transport the evacuees to turn back, especially on the island’s Leeward side. This means residents fleeing the red zone are forced to do so via land. The volcano went from an effusive to an explosive eruption shortly after 8:40 Friday morning.

Meanwhile, an emotional Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves has thanked regional countries for their support and assistance, saying “I just love this Caribbean.”
