PRIME MINISTER BROWNE SIGNS MAJOR AGREEMENT DURING OFFICIAL VISIT TO SURINAME

Antigua and Barbuda and the Republic of Suriname have deepened ties in key areas including agriculture. Prime Minister Hon Gaston Browne signed an agreement today which is expected to provide a further boost to Antigua and Barbuda’s crop and livestock agriculture. The second component of the Antigua and Barbuda Country Assistance Programme under the Caribbean Development Fund will advance the process toward obtaining coconut seedlings and Black Belly Sheep from Suriname. Other products are set to be included under this programme.

Earlier, Prime Minister Browne visited the Central Market in Paramaribo as well as the Farmer Field School. He was also taken on a tour of a pineapple and dragon fruit plantation. The Head of Government is leading a delegation on an official two-day visit to Suriname, and has held bi-lateral talks with President Desire Bouterse during a packed agenda.

The two CARICOM states have been working to collaborate more closely since signing a Memorandum of Understanding. The Ministers of Trade in both countries are to continue efforts on hammering out a Memorandum of Understanding from the MOU.
