PRIME MINISTER SAYS A&B’S TAX-TO-GDP RATIO REMAINS LOWEST IN REGION, DESPITE INCREASES

Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Hon. Gaston Browne says Antigua and Barbuda’s tax revenues as a percentage of its economic output remains the lowest in the region, despite increases in taxes he announced on Friday.
The Government proposes an increase in the Antigua and Barbuda Sales Tax to 17%, up 2 percentage points, while there are ‘sin taxes’ on alcohol and tobacco products.
The Government is also seeking to rake in more revenues when individuals send remittances.
Prime Minister Browne has sought to explain why the revenue measures are crucial to ensuring government can sustainably meet its obligations.
