STRUCTURAL WORK COMPLETED ON NATIONAL PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE
The government says structural work has been completed on the National Performing Arts Centre in St John’s, with the installation of the multi-media equipment the only component left to be undertaken.
When ABS News visited the facility Friday afternoon, workmen were carrying out vacuuming newly-installed seating, as well as other finishing touches.
The facility will host the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) on November 3.
The handover of the facility had been scheduled for September 30, but government spokesman, Maurice Merchant, explains the installation of the multi-media equipment has been delayed because the cables to be used to hang them from the ceiling of the facility must be certified.
He says that certification is expected to be completed within days, paving the way for the multi-media equipment to be installed.
Antigua and Barbuda is finetuning preparations to host heads of state and government from across the 56-nation Commonwealth, together with thousands of other attendees.
The Heads of Government Meeting is held every two years and Antigua and Barbuda will be the smallest member state to ever host the event.
