Leader of opposition business in the Senate, Chester Hughes, is promising a high standard of debate in Parliament’s Upper House, insisting opposition lawmakers will focus on policy, not politics during debates.

Hughes, who returns to the senate after a previous stint, outlined what the opposition intends to bring to the chamber, as he addressed Wednesday’s first sitting since the general election.
