A man who beat his childhood friend unconscious with a metal pipe in 2013 will be sentenced in the High Court on July 8.
On Friday, 11 out of 12 jurors found Mencia “G-Dog” Joshua guilty of causing grievous body harm with intent.
The court heard Joshua pummeled Kayon “Bluntis” Phoenix with a 3-feet-long metal pipe; in retaliation for blows he received during an earlier fight with the man.
Phoenix told police Joshua had threatened to kill him after he struck the accused with a stone during an altercationon November 1, 2013.
He says nine days later on November 10 Joshua attacked him from behind as he spoke with a female neighbor.
The neighbor corroborated the complainant’s story when she testified in court. Sheadded the accused searched the victim’s pockets as he lay unconscious following the attack.
Joshua told the court he was only defending himself from Phoenix whom he claimed was armed with a gun.
Both the complainant and the eyewitness denied the presence of a firearm that day
