FAULT AT POWER PLANT CAUSES ISLAND WIDE OUTAGE
APUA’s Electricity Business Unit Manager, Andre Matthias says a fault at Antigua Power Company’s 50-megawatt power plant at Crabbs caused an island wide outage today.
Matthias says a 17-megawatt unit at the facility automatically shut down at around 10:09 this morning; initiating a total collapse in the system.
He says investigations into the cause of the shutdown are ongoing.
The blackout significantly affected students who had been sitting Electronic Document Preparation and Management (EDPM) as part of the CSEC Examinations today.
