VICTORY CENTRE REELS FROM LETTUCE VANDALISM FOLLOWING HYDROPONICS PUSH
A vandal has destroyed several lettuce plants at the Victory Centre, a week before they were to be harvested.
The criminal act happened less than 24 hours after a hydroponics system was handed over to the school for students with disabilities.
School principal Jahmorla James Francis told ABS News that a camera captured a man scaling the fence to gain access to the school compound, before destroying 20 lettuce plants.
By the time police and a teacher arrived, he had left the compound.
The man has not been identified, but is believed to be the same individual who attempted to break into the school a few days earlier.
The Victory Centre has been burglarised on several occasions, with thieves stealing donated tablets and a television set intended for the school’s Information Technology room.
The school installed burglar bars on its windows and air-conditioning units n response to the repeated break-ins.
James Francis says the school has been afraid to publicize its donations, since thieves seem to be targeting notifications.
She says the school is in need of a proper security system and a security guard and is hoping that private entities may be willing to assist.
