CHIEF ENVIRONMENT OFFICER RESPONDS TO EGG TRAY MACHINE ROW

Chief Environment Officer Ambassador Diann Black Layne is surprised by the backlash in some quarters in the wake of the importation and use of an egg tray machine.
The Chief Environment Officer says the Department of Environment had no conversation with anyone, made no promises and had nothing in writing.
Ambassador Black Layne says in introducing any technology, the DOE looks at stakeholders who could benefit, in this case, the egg or poultry farmers to see if they’d want to purchase the bi-product.
She notes the DOE has a wide range of technology programmes being developed.
She says it is in this context technology that can recycle paper and cardboard was identified; the bi-product of which are the egg trays.
