CITIZENS URGED TO SEEK FURTHER VOCATIONAL TRAINING

Individuals employed in vocational skills fields such as masonry or plumbing are being encouraged to seek out further training in order to attain a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Certificate or the regional counterpart, Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ).

The call is coming from Acting CEO of the National Training Agency Casey Maxwell-Roberts. She says the qualifications are especially important for citizens seeking to emigrate as the certificates are recognized regionally and internationally.

The competency based certificates she says can be obtained from local institutions such as Antigua State College (ASC), the Antigua and Barbuda Institute for Continuing Education (A.B.I.C.E.) and Gilbert Agricultural and Rural Development (GARD) Center.

Meanwhile, Roberts tells ABS discussions are taking place to establish an apprenticeship programme with the Ministry of Works.
