The number of reported crimes in this country is decreasing.
Commissioner of the Royal Police Force of Antigua & Barbuda Atlee Rodney is reporting a decrease in the number of total crimes reported in the first quarter of 2021.
Rodney says 585 incidents of crime were reported from January to March 2021 when compared to 619 over the same period in 2020.
There has been improvement especially in the area of murder.  Commissioner Rodney discloses only 1 murder has been recorded this year as opposed to 3 murders at this time last year.
The Commissioner laments acquisition crimes continue to plague the country.  Crimes to include robberies, larceny, and break-ins account for almost 70% of all reported crimes.
The Police Commissioner says most of these infractions are crimes of opportunity and he encourages the general public to be on guard to secure property.
