Criminal Activitives Reviewed By The Commissioner Of Police Vere Browne

Although criminal activity has brought a negative outlook on the country’s image, the island’s top cop says he is taking some positive lessons learnt in 2014, into 2015.

Police Commissioner Vere Browne says taking into consideration the lack of man power and other disadvantages that they face within the force, his officers must be commended for the work done.

Browne says the country’s murder rate remains high, but 2014 saw a reduction in other criminal activities.

He notes too that arson was cut in half for 2014, kidnapping saw a 100% reduction rate and burglary hit a low of 26%. Robberies however, showed an increase in 2014 with 241 when compared to 155 in 2013. Rape also saw an increase from 18 in 2013 to 27 in 2014.

The Commissioner believes that the legal chain needs to work along with the force going forward, to ensure that offenders do not get off easily.
