Government Moves to Reform Immigration Department’s Operations

Government is moving to reform the operations at the Immigration Department as a means of improving efficiency and effectiveness.

Minister of National Security Senator, the Hon. Errol Cort, was invited to make the presentation to the Lower House on Wednesday when he announced that OECS nationals will be granted indefinite stay in the country.

The National Security Minister outlines the code of operation for immigration officers under the new Immigration and Passport Act.

Minister Cort says that the new legislation, seeks to ensure that local laws are in keeping with regional treaty obligations.

The Act titled the Immigration and Passport Bill 2014 received support from Opposition Parliamentarians on Wednesday. It now makes its way to the Senate for further debate.
