Hon. Michael Browne Respond To Claims Of Teachers Request

Minister of Education the Hon. Michael Browne has reacted to claims from the Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers pertaining to his lack of response to their request.

The teachers’ union had earlier expressed disgust at recent failed attempts to gain an audience with the minister in relation to his apparent refusal to appoint its representative to the Board of Education.

The Union viewed its exclusion from the Board as an insult, given that its nominee was one of the agents who pioneered the Act to establish the entity.

But in an interview on ZDK Radio Friday, Minister Browne said he is not opposed to the union appointing a member to the Board of Education.

However, he recommends that the union send someone who has never before served on the Board, due to the ongoing investigation into the statutory body.

Browne adds that there are some changes taking place in the Ministry, but nonetheless the union has met with senior officials within the Ministry. He says what is being purported by the union is totally unnecessary.
