Immigration Minister, Hon Steadroy Cutie Benjamin, is offering to step aside from responsibility for the portfolio to allow an independent inquiry into the smuggling issue.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Minister Benjamin says his actions are driven by the need for transparency and good governance that the new administration practices.

The press conference was called to address the operation of a people smuggling ring that was uncovered in the country.
