Members Sworn In For Income Tax Appeals Board

Members of the Income Tax Appeals Board have received their instruments of appointment from Governor General Sir Rodney Williams, during a swearing-in ceremony at Government House on Tuesday.

Laurie Freeland returns as chairman, and is joined by members Maureen Payne-Hyman, Francine Albertine and Denise Armstrong as well as board secretary Beulah Buckley.

In his remarks, Sir Rodney noted that several members are returning to the board.

The board gives taxpayers the right to appeal an income tax assessment under the income tax act.

It can either reduce an assessment found to be an overcharge, or increase one found to be an undercharge.

Sir Rodney said the board’s role is to examine each case impartially, without favouring either the taxpayer or the revenue authority.
