Major Boost for Marine Observation in A&B and The Region

Published

on

Antigua and Barbuda is stepping up its marine monitoring capabilities as the region heads into the peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season.

The country received three Sofar ocean data buoy stations on Tuesday. One of the buoys has already been deployed, while the remaining two will be deployed on Thursday.

It’s part of the “Strengthening Institutional Capacity for a Resilient Caribbean Coastal and Marine Environment” (RCCAME) Project.

The project is being managed by the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology, with financing provided through a US$1.5 million grant from the Caribbean Development Bank.

This is another major step toward establishing a regional marine observation

network across Caribbean Meteorological Organization (CMO) Member States.
