MINIMUM WAGE ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO BEGIN DELIBERATIONS IN DAYS

Attorney General and Labour Minister Hon. Steadroy Benjamin has confirmed to ABS News that discussions are to begin shortly on a possible increase in the national minimum wage.
The minimum wage was last increased in 2015 and now stands at $8:20 per hour.
The Minister says the broad-based consultations will be led by the Minimum Wage Advisory Committee and says several factors including the cost of living will be considered.
Inflationary pressures have been fueled around the world by supply chain issues triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Minister Benjamin also says consideration may be given to examining the possibility of a minimum wage for various categories of workers, instead of a single minimum wage across the board.
