Minister Of Health Plans To Improve Healthcare In The Nation

The Ministry of Health is making strides to improve healthcare in Antigua and Barbuda as a board meeting on Tuesday ended with critical decisions in this area.

Minister of Health the Hon. Molwyn Joseph says one such decision is an increase of doctors in the Emergency Room to a minimum of two and a standard of three. This is aimed at decreasing the waiting period for patients to receive medical attention.

The health minister also reveals that the procurement of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies would be consolidated in an effort to reduce the cost of the country’s largest deficit.

To also aid in reducing the wait for lab results, lab services will be expanded to include tests that would normally be sent overseas.

According to the health minister, government is attempting to develop a healthcare system that will cater to the sub-region.
