Pink Hibiscus Mealybug Is Now Under Control

The proliferation of the Pink Hibiscus mealybug is now under control in Antigua and Barbuda.

That’s according to Head of the Plant Protection Unit Dr. Janelle Gore-Francis who added that Antigua was among the last islands in the region to have been affected by the pest after it entered the country around 2000 to 2001.

According Dr. Janelle Gore-Francis, the pest took its toll on the island but it wasn’t as bad as the destruction in places like Grenada, the first country in the region where the pest appeared.

The Head of the Plant Protection Unit says that the pink mealey bug poses a serious threat to agricultural, ornamental, and horticultural plants in tropical and subtropical areas.
