Sandals Is On Schedule To Reopen On December 17
positive news for the employees of the Sandals Grande Antigua.
Effective November 20, all employees will return to the hotel and be fully back on the payroll.
The announcement came from Sandals Resorts International.
In a media release issued Tuesday, the Jamaica-based hotel chain said most staff were off the job for 60 days and were paid a percentage of their salary as negotiated with the union.
The resort also says some staffers were on paid vacation while 75 were retained on a full-time basis including 27 who were deployed to other resorts.
According to Sandals it is on schedule to reopen on December 17.
The hotel employs 653 persons and this has been the first time it has closed in its 25 years of operation in Antigua.
The closure was deemed by the government as an act of hostility by the hotel group, after it failed to secure further concessions.
The hotel has denied this saying the maintenance work is crucial.
Legislation has since been passed which will come into effect in January next year and will require large hoteliers to give adequate notice of closure for maintenance.
Otherwise, they will lose concessions.
