More roofing materials are to arrive for the construction activities by the end of January next year.

The People’s Republic of China is partnering with the United Nations Development Programme in purchasing US$2million in roofing materials.

The news comes in the wake of another commitment from the UNDP to the people and Government of Antigua and Barbuda.

The commitment came from UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean Jessica Faieta.

She met with Prime Minister the Hon Gaston Browne during a two-day mission that was finalized on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Browne says he is looking forward to working in cooperation with UNDP on quality rebuilding efforts, and on the repairs of at least 200 houses and some public buildings, which will support the return of affected families to Barbuda.

The Prime Minister notes that the country is facing mounting pressures, in what he refers to as a tricky period, with the holidays and the hurricane season fast approaching again.
