MEN SENTENCED TO 6 YEARS FOR MANSLAUGHTER
Dane Hart and Lenroy Black have been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the High Court.
The men and their co-accused, Ryan Samuel have admitted to killing Shane James in 2015.
The court heard, prior to the incident, Hart and James had had a history of confrontations.
On the fateful day, James and his mother were standing at the side of a road in Seaview Farm waiting for a bus to take them to work.
However, after seeing James, the defendants exited a car and attacked the chef.
Samuel, who pleaded guilty to murder, stabbed James several times while Hart beat him with a plank and Black threw stones.
All of this occurred as Jams’ mother pleaded with them not to kill her son.
An autopsy report reveals the victim died as a result of massive hemorrhaging and multiple stab wounds.
In formulating the punishments for Hart and Black the judge began with a sentence of 12 years.
This was reduced by a third to eight years since the men pleaded guilty to the offence.
It was further reduced by two years to the final sentence of six years considering the men were of previous good character.
Though Samuel was at the hearing no sentence was passed on him since his lawyer was not present to mitigate on his behalf.
He is now scheduled to be sentenced next Friday on the more serious charge of murder.
