UNDP RESPONSIBLE FOR DELAY IN BARBUDA RESTORATION
The delay in restoring Barbuda after the onslaught of Hurricane Irma rests squarely in the hands of the United Nations Development Programme.
That’s according to Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister Lionel Hurst.
He says the local contractors are unable to meet fresh requirements imposed by the UNDP.
Other requirements include the provision of accounting records going back several years.
Cabinet believes this will cause outside contractors to secure the work.
Cabinet is of the view this is the reason the UNDP has taken such stringent action.
The government has written to the UNDP requesting they relax these requirements to enable local contractors to benefit.
