WOMAN FINED 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR QUARANTINE BREACH
Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh is sending a strong message to anyone thinking of flouting quarantine instructions.
The Magistrate handed down the maximum sentence to a woman who admitted she left quarantine before the mandatory 14-day period.
Jayelle Jarvis, an Antiguan citizen who lives in the United States, pleaded guilty to the offence Thursday.
Health officials placed the woman on self-quarantine in Bolans when she arrived in the country.
The defendant says a friend convinced her she would not get into trouble if she left quarantine early to celebrate her birthday.
However, Jarvis found herself in police custody after someone saw her at JR’s Sports Bar and Grill January 13 and made a report to the health authorities.
The Magistrate sentenced her to a fine of 10-thousand dollars, failing which she will spend six months in prison.
