AG ARGUES FOR INCREASE IN FINES FOR BREACHES
Attorney General Hon. Steadroy Benjamin will be urging his cabinet colleagues to support an increase in fines for breaching COVID-19 safety protocols.
He insists his position is driven by the need for a greater deterrent for flouting the regulations, not as a revenue measure for the state.
Meanwhile, the government’s chief legal advisor says he will also urge cabinet to back a change to allow for the police to ticket those who break the curfew.
He argues this is a practical step which also ensures the safety of the police.
