ICTs MINISTRY ISSUES HACKING WARNING TO WHAT’S APP USERS
The Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies is issuing a warning to What’s App users, amidst a fresh wave of hacking attempts.
The Ministry’s Cyber Security and Communications departments say unscrupulous individuals are targeting unsuspecting users of the app.
Members of the public are being advised to be on the alert for a What’s app call, in which an individual claims to be calling on behalf of a What’s App group that they are a part of.
The caller will likely indicate that there will be a zoom meeting of the group and will indicate a link will be sent to be clicked on, or a code issued for verification.
Users of the app are being warned against clicking on any such link, or verifying any code.
Clicking on the link or verifying the code will result in your What’s App being taken over by the hacker.
One of the numbers known to have been used for such calls is +234 903 891 0718, but there are likely to be other numbers.
