‘WE EXPECT YOU TO COOPERATE’ – PM BROWNE’S MESSAGE TO JUDICIARY ON MINIMUM SENTENCES

Legislation to introduce minimum sentences for serious gun crimes and sexual offences against minors will be among bills to be debated when Parliament’s Lower House meets on September 18.

The legislation is to propose a minimum sentence of 15 years for serious firearm offences.

Prime Minister the Right Hon. Gaston Browne told the audience on the Browne and Browne show on PBN on Saturday he expects the judiciary to comply with decisions made by the legislature.

The prime minister says the independence of the judiciary does not indicate the freedom to do as it pleases.

The legislative push is part of a tougher stance the prime minister says must be taken before the country is irrevocably destroyed.
