Drug Mule Charged In Bermuda
The man who boarded a flight from Antigua sometime in June with cocaine in his stomach, and caused pilots to make an emergency landing, got off the hook when he appeared in a magistrate’s court in Bermuda.
Colmin Smith, 48, had reportedly swallowed 239.39 grams of cocaine, contained in 68 pellets and worth £40,000 at street value, before boarding a Virgin Atlantic flight from Antigua to London Gatwick.
Smith reportedly fell ill and lost consciousness, after one of the pellets he ingested burst in his stomach. But he had reportedly informed a cabin crew member of what he had done, before passing out.
Appearing in a Bermuda courtroom Colmin Smith was fined 471 pounds sterling.
A senior member of the island’s narcotic unit said: ‘There was no evidence that the drug was to be vended on Bermuda’s streets so he could only be charged with possession.
After appearing in court and paying the fine, Smith was deported with the help of the British Embassy
