ECSC LAUNCHES SENTENCING GUIDELINES

The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court has launched sentencing guidelines for judges and magistrates under its jurisdiction.
The guidelines, which applies to Judicial Officers in this country, are to ensure a fair, clear and consistent approach to sentencing in the region.
This first batch of guidelines covers certain sexual offences, drug offences as well as theft and robbery.
Legal luminaries gathered at the High Court in St. John’s for the launch this morning.
The event was simulcast to all the states and territories under the court’s jurisdiction.
ABS’s court reporter Jamie J Roacher was also in attendance.
