REGIONAL CHIEFS OF DEFENCE TO MEET IN ANTIGUA

For the first time, a hybrid meeting of Caribbean Chiefs of Defence (CHODs) in the region will meet in Antigua to discuss pressing security matters. Participants will meet in-person and on-line.
The conclave will be held on Wednesday September 1, 2021 and will be sponsored by the UK Government.  The meetings were the brainchild of discussions held between regional leaders of defence and General Sir Nick Carter.  Carter is UK Chief of Defence and visited the region in 2020.
According to Resident British Commissioner to Antigua and Barbuda, Lindsy Thompson, participants will discuss issues of Maritime Security, Serious Organized Crime & Threats, Regional Initiatives and Implications for UK Defence Engagement, and Natural Threats.
A wholly virtual meeting of CHODs was held in November 2020.  Colonel Telbert Benjamin ABDF Chief of Defence Staff and Lt Col Trevor Pennyfeather attended on behalf of Antigua and Barbuda.
