ST LUCIA QUARANTINES CRUISE VESSEL AMIDST MEASLES SCARE
Health authorities in St Lucia quarantined a cruise vessel this week in the wake of reports of confirmed measles cases on board.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr Merlene Fredericks-James is quoted in St Lucia News Online indicating that officials were investigating information from ‘two reputable sources’ about the cases of the highly contagious virus.
She confirmed the vessel was quarantined based on internal discussion and consultation with the Pan American Health Organisation.
The vessel left St Lucia this morning without any passengers or crew being allowed to disembark.
The CMO also reminded Saint Lucians that there is a situation in the region with people to and from the United States, Europe and other places where measles represents an issue.
Dr Fredericks-James is also urging people to get vaccinated and ensure that their children obtain the necessary vaccines as well.
