ANTIGUA & BARBUDA EYES US$55 MILLION FUNDING
Antigua and Barbuda is a candidate to benefit from 55-million-US-Dollars in funding from the United Nations’ Green Climate Fund (GCF).
The money will go to a number of major environmental projects.
Talks with the GCF were advanced during its recent Global Programming Conference in South Korea.
Representing Antigua and Barbuda were Environment Minister Molwyn Joseph, Environment Chief Diann Black Layne and GCF Readiness Coordinator Michai Robertson. One of the projects being targeted for GCF Funding, according to Ambassador Layne, will focus on getting government buildings category five hurricane ready.

Ambassador Layne says training will be another component. And funding will be provided to ensure that Public Works and students leaving the UWI campus and all of the country’s technical schools will benefit from training in advanced building techniques.
Also included in the grant will be a project to bury utility lines and replace APUA water lines with stronger pipes that wouldn’t crack during a drought.
Ambassador Layne says a GCF team will be coming to Antigua and Barbuda to assist in the preparation and submission of the project documents.
