ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA CONDEMNS OAS VOTE ON VENEZUELA
Antigua and Barbuda has roundly condemned a recent vote at the Organization of American States, OAS.
Some member states voted for a treaty that clears the way for military intervention in Venezuela.
Antigua and Barbuda could not vote in the exercise since it is not a signatory to the treaty, but has raised grave concerns.
It says in a statement 17 legitimate members of the OAS were excluded from the exercise and questioned why the representative of the opposition leader, Juan Guaido, was able to vote.
Foreign Affairs Minister the Honourabe EP Chet Greene lamented the vote made use of an outdated Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance, otherwise known as the Rio Treaty.
Trinidad and Tobago abstained from the vote while the Bahamas was absent.
Haiti is the only other Caricom country which is a signatory to the treaty and voted in favour.
All of the other Caricom countries are not signatories and so could not vote.
According to Minister Greene, the entire world should be alarmed at this dangerous action which violates the Charters of the United Nations and the Organisation of American States itself.
