ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA HAS SECOND HIGHEST VACCINATION RATE IN CARIBBEAN
Antigua and Barbuda has the second highest vaccination rate in the Caribbean so far, having vaccinated 25 per cent of its population.
Only Anguilla, a British overseas territory, has a higher per capita vaccination at 31 per cent.
This was confirmed based on data available to sub-regional heads of government at the 6th special meeting of the OECS Authority Friday.
Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne and his fellow regional heads held intensive discussions about the virus and vaccination as they welcomed World Health Organisation Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Dr. Tedros agreed to pay full attention to small states’ issues and to make the supply of vaccines a top priority for the WHO.
He revealed that 76% of global vaccine production had so far gone to only a few rich countries.
It was indicated at the meeting that Jamaica has so far been the only country in the region to receive vaccines under the WHO’S COVAX facility, a shipment of 14,400 doses on Monday.
