Boundaries Resolution passed
The Lower house has passed a resolution to change the demarcations of the boundaries in Antigua, after all nine government MPs, and the Barbuda MP endorsed the proposed changes.
St. Mary’s South MP, the Hon. Hilson Baptiste, who is also responsible for Lands and Housing, believes that Boundaries should be reviewed periodically as the population grows.
St. Peters MP, the Hon. Asot Michael says if Boundary Reforms were to come into effect, his constituency would be eliminated, with the electorate being placed in neighboring constituencies.
He is outraged at this development.
St. Phillip South MP, Wilmoth Daniel welcomes the Boundary Reform changes and chides the opposition MP’s for contesting the matter in court.
Opposition Leader, the Hon. Gaston Browne has appealed High Court Justice Brian Cottle’s dismissal of claims that the Boundaries Commission Report is based on invalid assumptions.
This means that the changes passed in parliament cannot occur until the court rules on the matter on February 14.
