Audit Bill Passed in Senate
St. John’s, Antigua – Senators in the Upper House have welcomed further transparency in the public sector, with the passage of the Director of Audit Bill 2014.
Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Dr. the Hon Errol Cort, says the legislation makes provisions for Ministers to present the findings of audits conducted within their Ministries before the House of Representatives, thus making the results public.
General Secretary of the Antigua Workers Union, Senator David Massiah has supported the bill, but questioned a section that deals with the retirement of the Director of Audit at age 60.
Government has announced that with the passage of the legislation, an audit department will be created along with the appointment of a Director of Audit.
