REVIEW TO BE CARRIED OUT ON ENFORCEMENT OF LAWS AGAINST SMOKING IN PUBLIC

To arrest, or not to arrest is the question to be answered when a review is carried out on the enforcement of laws related to smoking in public places.

It is an offence to smoke either cannabis or tobacco in public places under the Tobacco Control Act of 2018 and the Misuse of Drugs (Amendment) Act of 2024.

However, Attorney General, Hon. Sir Steadroy Benjamin, says these provisions will be reviewed when Parliament is reconstituted after the next general elections.

He says the review will be guided by engagement with stakeholders. In the meantime, the public is being reminded that the provisions of the law are still in force, especially as it relates to possession of cannabis in public spaces.
